"I do have conversations with him [Putin – ed.], and I do have conversations with President Zelenskyy, and good conversations," he said.

Trump also repeated the narrative about hatred between Putin and President Zelenskyy.

"The hatred between President Putin and President Zelenskyy is ridiculous. It's crazy. And hate is a bad thing. Hate is a bad thing when you're trying to settle something, but it'll happen," he added. [N.B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]

Background:

  • Zelenskyy recently acknowledged that the conflict in Iran has diverted attention from Russia's aggression against Ukraine and warned of a significant risk that efforts to end hostilities in Ukraine may not resume until the conflict in Iran ends.
  • At the beginning of April, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed that Türkiye is willing to host the next round of negotiations aimed at ending the Russo-Ukrainian war.
  • On 25 April, during a visit to Azerbaijan, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for another round of peace talks with Russia in a trilateral format on Azerbaijani territory.
