Details: The US State Department announced that the US was ready to commit up to US$100 million to rehabilitate the NSC arch as part of joint G7 efforts.
The US State Department noted that after last year's damage "during the senseless ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine", the NSC, originally designed to last 100 years, no longer provided proper protection against a potential radiation leak.
Quote: "Consistent with the United States' continued leadership on issues of nuclear safety and non-proliferation, working with Congress, the United States is proactively committing 20%, or US$100 million, of the G7's estimated US$500 million cost to rehabilitate the NSC arch and ensure continued safety and security of the Chornobyl reactors and nuclear material. We call upon our G7 and European partners to follow suit and make substantial financial commitments…"
