US President Donald Trump has personally called on Chinese leader Xi Jinping to help bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

Details: According to sources familiar with the discussions, Trump told Xi that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine had reached a stalemate and urged him to help bring Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin back to the negotiating table with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Quote: "The call reflected Washington's clear need to involve Beijing in its efforts to end the war – a conflict that Trump made a centrepiece of his foreign policy agenda upon returning to the White House last year."
