Ukraine receives further US$690m from the IMF

Ukraine has received a second tranche of around US$690 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under its new four-year loan programme.

Quote: "The funds have already arrived in the state budget and will be directed towards supporting macro-financial stability, including financing priority expenditure."

Details: The total amount of financing provided to Ukraine under the new programme will amount to around US$2.2 billion.

Koretskyi also said earlier that the government plans to speed up implementation of the reforms agreed with the IMF.

Background:

• On 16 July, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) approved the appointment of a new government, to be headed by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
• On 17 July, Koretskyi made his first international call – to the IMF.
• The IMF has agreed to disburse a loan tranche to Ukraine despite Kyiv's failure to meet a condition requiring the adoption of a law taxing international parcels worth up to €150.
