German Interior Ministry says no weapons were on board Ukrainian An-124 at Leipzig Airport

Germany's Interior Ministry has denied reports that a Ukrainian An-124 cargo aircraft, next to which an explosive-laden drone was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport, was carrying ammunition.

Details: According to DW, the absence of any weapons on board the Ukrainian aircraft was explicitly confirmed during a closed-door briefing in the Bundestag attended by members of the parliamentary committees on internal affairs and defence.

The Interior Ministry has not officially commented on the information.

Background:

• The previous day, German media reported that the Ukrainian cargo aircraft, beside which an explosive-equipped drone had been found at Leipzig/Halle Airport, was loaded with ammunition.
• On the night of 4-5 August, an explosive-equipped drone fitted with a detonator was discovered near a Ukrainian aircraft at the German airport. The outlet Die Zeit reported that the aircraft was an Antonov plane, believed to belong to the Ukrainian Air Force.
• NATO told European Pravda that it had been informed about the incident.
