Drone crashes in Romania near border with Ukraine
A drone crashed in Romania's Tulcea County, about five kilometres from the Ukrainian border, after flying too low to be detected by radar surveillance systems.

Details: On Friday 14 August, Romania's Ministry of National Defence received a report via the 112 emergency number that a drone had crashed near Luncavița in Tulcea County, five kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
According to the information available so far, the aerial target was not detected by the Ministry of National Defence's radar surveillance systems because it was flying at a very low altitude.
The drone crashed in a wooded area and, according to preliminary information, caused no casualties or property damage.
"A team of specialists from the Ministry of National Defence will survey the area aboard an IAR 330 PUMA SOCAT helicopter. We will provide further information as the situation develops," the ministry said.
Background:
- On 26 July, Romania shot down a drone that had violated its airspace from a fighter jet for the third consecutive day.
- The first combat use of aircraft over Romania to shoot down such a UAV – later confirmed to have been a Shahed-type drone – took place on 24 July.
- This followed numerous incidents in which Russian drones entered Romanian territory and crashed there, mostly in areas along the Danube near the border, during Russian attacks targeting Ukrainian ports.
