Ukraine has sufficient gas reserves to get through winter

Ukraine has accumulated enough gas to cover the baseline scenario for the upcoming winter.

Details: Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities currently hold 14.6 billion cubic metres of gas. This is the target level of reserves, which was reached a month ahead of schedule.

Shmyhal thanked Ukrainian gas production companies, the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, Ukraine's largest national oil and gas company Naftogaz and all employees of the fuel and energy sector for achieving the target.

"As far as gas reserves are concerned, we are ready for the autumn-winter period of 2026-2027. We are continuing work in other areas," the minister wrote.

Background:

EU gas storage facilities may finish the injection season only 76% full, putting reserves at their lowest pre-winter level since at least 2011 and raising the risk of further price spikes.
Since the beginning of 2026, Russia has attacked Naftogaz facilities, including gas production sites, more than 250 times.
