Russian attack leaves a third of Pryluky residents without gas

A Russian attack overnight has damaged a medium-pressure gas pipeline in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, temporarily leaving more than 18,000 of the city's 51,000 residents without gas.

Details: Teams from Hazmerezhi, Ukraine's gas distribution network operator, are working at the site. Experts are inspecting the networks and equipment in order to restore the gas supply. Fedorenko did not say when the work is expected to be completed.

During the attack, a Russian missile destroyed an entire section of an apartment building where, among others, employees of the Naftogaz Group live.

As of the time of publication, Fedorenko said that one Naftogaz Group employee is known to have been killed.

Background:

  • On the night of 6-7 October, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using various types of aerial weapons. Ukraine's Air Force reported that air defence had intercepted 161 Russian assets.
  • Air-raid warnings were issued in Kyiv and most Ukrainian oblasts overnight into Wednesday due to the threat of ballistic missile attacks. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and Dnipro.
  • Russian forces attacked Pryluky in Chernihiv Oblast with missiles, hitting a high-rise residential building. Police reported four people killed and 20 injured.
