Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that, during talks in Kyiv with US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and national security advisers from France, the UK and Germany, the discussions covered not only potential parameters for ending the war but also short-term support for Ukraine.

Details: Zelenskyy said that three rounds of negotiations took place on 6 September in total, and all of them were "very substantive".

The president joked that the presence of Witkoff and Kushner in Kyiv "worked better than Patriot systems" and said he hopes they will visit more often so that ordinary Ukrainians could have the chance to "live a little" without Russian attacks.

"One can sometimes joke about 'Patriot', but nonetheless, we understand that this is a very pressing issue, very important for us… If the war continues into winter – and for now it looks that way – we are very much counting on the 'winter package', which I discussed in detail today with Steve, Jared and our European partners," Zelenskyy said.

He noted that Kyiv is counting on air defence, energy support and the possibility of using American liquefied natural gas.

Quote: "The territorial question remains a pressing one… This does not mean we talked about it for a very long time, but we had the opportunity and we did discuss it. I will maintain my position that complex issues like this are resolved only at the level of leaders."

Details: Zelenskyy added that they also discussed security guarantees, economic guarantees, recovery and a "prosperity plan" for Ukraine.

"We understand what our armed forces must look like, they must be strong – and these are the main security guarantees for us. All of this requires resources. And you understand this perfectly well, we all understand this. Therefore, the guarantees must be strong and clear," the president said.
