NATO fighter jets shoot down drone that entered Lithuanian airspace

NATO fighter jets have destroyed a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace on the night of 14-15 September.

Quote from Nausėda: "A drone that just entered Lithuanian airspace was destroyed by NATO fighter jets. I thank Allied personnel for their swift response."

Details: Nausėda said that this level of readiness is vital for the region amid Russia's escalating aggression against Ukraine.

Quote from Nausėda: "Together with our NATO Allies, Lithuania will defend its airspace."

Details: Vitkauskas later said that the drone shot down by NATO fighter jets had entered Lithuania from Belarus.

Quote from Vitkauskas: "Yes, from Belarus. Then Lentvaris, Trakai District Municipality – that is where the object was heading west."

Background:

• Moldova's Air Operations Service recorded an unauthorised drone flight that briefly crossed the country's airspace near the village of Palanca.
• Russian drones attacked border infrastructure along the border with Moldova on the night of 8-9 September. A Moldovan citizen was among those injured as a result of the Russian strike.
