Polish PM Tusk to visit Ukraine on Friday: to meet Slovak PM and discuss sanctions against Russia
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that he will visit Ukraine on 18 September, where, in particular, he will meet with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and discuss sanctions against Russia.

Details: At a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker in Warsaw on 17 September, Tusk stated that he plans to discuss the issue of sanctions against Russia in Ukraine.
He also noted that he was greatly surprised by France's position on this issue, whilst Slovakia is traditionally "more cautious regarding various sanctions".
Quote: "After my meeting with the prime ministers of the Visegrád Group in Bratislava a few days ago, I am optimistic about the position of the entire Visegrád Group regarding sanctions. Tomorrow I will also see Prime Minister Fico in Ukraine, where a summit will take place. As for the French position, however – I will try to find out from President Macron whether protecting the interests of a single individual is indeed a priority for France."
Background:
- Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the Carpathian Initiative summit, which will take place on 18-20 September in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. The event will gather business representatives from various countries of the Carpathian region.
- According to European Pravda, on 14 September neither Slovakia nor France agreed to change their demands, without which they are not prepared to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation.
- The Slovaks are demanding the removal of Russian oligarchs Mihail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov from the sanctions list, whilst France joined the demand to remove Usmanov back on 11 September.
