Zelenskyy discusses Black Sea security with Erdoğan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and discussed security in the Black Sea and the operation of the maritime export corridor.

Quote: "We discussed security in the Black Sea, first and foremost how to ensure the operation of the maritime export corridor. In fact, there are countries on every continent that depend on our food exports.

And there are now various options on the table for how the corridor can be fully restored. What is needed is simply Russia's readiness to stop its terrorist strikes on our infrastructure, so that Ukraine can reciprocally halt its long-range responses."

Details: Zelenskyy added that he and Erdoğan had also discussed bilateral issues, including a free trade area and a potential drone deal.

Background:

• Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also discussed global food security, including Russian attacks on Ukraine's maritime corridor, with Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme.
• Sybiha stressed that the consequences of Russian strikes will be felt far beyond the Black Sea region, as Ukraine supplies a significant share of grain and sunflower oil to global markets.
• He therefore described ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, protecting Ukrainian ports and holding Russia accountable as urgent global priorities.
• Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, urged Russia to stop attacks on Ukrainian grain in the Black Sea to restore grain exports and prevent a global food crisis.
