Russian operator extends restrictions on train services in Crimea

Restrictions on the movement of Russian Tavria trains in temporarily occupied Crimea have been extended.

Details: The Russian carrier Grand Service Express said the trains will run only to and from Kerch until 5 October inclusive.

"On the section between Kerch and other stations in Crimea, passengers use designated buses," the company said.

Krym.Realii notes that the restrictions were initially in place until 31 August, then extended until 14 September and subsequently until 21 September.

Restrictions on train services in Crimea have been in place since June, when they were introduced following a series of Ukrainian strikes on railway infrastructure on the peninsula.

Ukrainian drones struck railway bridges near Razdolne and Vladyslavivka, traction substations, locomotives and sections of railway track. As a result, train services on a number of routes were paralysed or severely restricted.

Background: Following strikes on a railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal and other infrastructure in Crimea, train services on part of the railway were suspended.
