Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat has reported that Ukrainian air defence forces have managed to shoot down jet-powered UAVs, including Geran-5 drones, using robotic turrets.

Quote: "Robotic turrets… are now being installed on bridges as well… There have already been cases of jet-powered UAVs, including Geran-5s, being shot down by these very turrets. I was quite sceptical myself – I wondered how this could possibly work. But the use of innovative technologies and artificial intelligence has eliminated human error and improved technical calculations. Machine vision is used to shoot them down. Artificial intelligence makes it possible to engage even jet-powered UAVs."

Details: Ihnat added, however, that these robotic turrets have a limited range, as machine guns are currently their primary means of engaging targets.

Background: On 4 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that more than 12 turrets had already been installed in Kyiv to counter jet-powered drones, with another eight due to be installed in Kyiv Oblast.
