Details: Peskov said that Russia agrees with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks that there are currently no apparent prospects for a diplomatic settlement.
However, he claimed that Moscow is "in favour of a comprehensive settlement of the conflict with Kyiv".
He stated that "Zelenskyy's confrontational statements indicate Ukraine's unwillingness to pursue peace", adding that his threats against Russia over a 40-day operation are now backfiring on Ukraine itself.
Quote: "Such statements, as the president [Russian leader Vladimir Putin] has said, are clear evidence that Ukraine is not ready and does not want to pursue any path towards peace. This is further confirmation of that."
Details: Peskov said that the people in Kyiv, residents of other Ukrainian cities and the country's industrial sector are feeling the consequences.
He also added that the announced conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump could take place on 8 October.
However, the Kremlin did not want to disclose the agenda of the conversation in advance.
Background:
- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said diplomatic negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war are currently proving "elusive"
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected Rubio's statement that a diplomatic end to the war was impossible because the situation had reached a "stalemate". He called on the US to help Ukraine gain air superiority and increase pressure on Russia.
