12-storey apartment building collapses in Kyiv after shelling

On the morning of 16 March, a 12-storey apartment building collapsed in the Shevchenkivsky neighbourhood of Kyiv as result of Russian shelling.

Details: At 06:16 on 16 March, rescue service (101) received a message about the collapse of an apartment building in the Shevchenkivsky district.

Rescue workers determined that shell fragments caused the collapse of the 12th storey and the plant floor of the 12-storey apartment building. A neighbouring 9-storey building was also partially damaged.

Rescuers had immediately started to evacuate the residents of the building and to extinguish localised fires.

As of 07:45, the fire was extinguished on the balconies of floors 3, 10, 11 and 12 and a flat on the top floor.

No burning has been observed in the nine-storey apartment building.

According to preliminary information, 37 people were evacuated, of whom 2 were injured.

Work on the search for victims and dismantling of structures continues.

Eight units of basic and special fire and rescue equipment, as well as 35 personnel, are involved at the scene.
