According to Peskov: "The information about the killing of civilians in Bucha should be seriously questioned. There are signs of video forgery and other fabrications there."

According to Lavrov: "The situation in Bucha has been staged by the West and Ukraine on social media."

Details: According to Peskov, Russia suggested the topic of what happened in Bucha be taken up at the UN Security Council, but the initiative was blocked.

Putin's spokesman added that "Moscow categorically rejects any accusations of civilian killings in Bucha and proposes that the topic be discussed at the highest possible level."

The Kremlin also demands that international leaders should not rush into "sweeping accusations on the situation in Bucha and should seek data from various sources."

Peskov declined to comment on how the situation with the brutal killings of civilians by Russians in Bucha might affect negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

Background:

  • On 1 April, Bucha mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk said the city had been liberated from Russian occupiers.
  • On 2 April, Fedoruk said that a mass grave had been discovered in the city, where around 300 people were buried, and that there were dozens of corpses lying in the streets, some of them with their hands tied.
  • On 3 April, the prosecutor-general said that 410 bodies of murdered civilians had been removed from the area of the Kyiv Region liberated from the invaders - these victims are being examined by forensic experts to document Russian crimes.
  • The Russian Defence Ministry has said that it does not acknowledge the atrocities of its troops in Bucha, Kyiv Region, and claims that not a single local resident has suffered from violent actions during the occupation of the city.
  • On the morning of 4 April, a funeral provider said that 330-340 civilians killed by the Russians had been buried in Bucha, which has been liberated from the invaders.
