The Russians again shelled a nuclear facility in Kharkiv

On 25 June, as a result of another shelling, the occupiers damaged the subcritical nuclear facility "Neutron Source" in Kharkiv.

Quote: "According to the operational organisation of the National Science Centre Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology (NSC KIPT), a preliminary inspection of the site has established that there has been additional damage to buildings and infrastructure of the industrial site."
Details: The following are reported to have been damaged:
- the north wall of the accelerator extension to the experimental hall of the facility;
- ventilation ducts of the special ventilation system;
- ventilation pipe of the main building of the facility;
- klystron gallery of the accelerator cooling system;
- housings of the diesel generators for the emergency power supply system;
- cladding of the main building of the facility.
Staff are continuing to inspect buildings and equipment to identify any damage.
At present, the nuclear facility has been reclassified to a deep subcritical state.
Radiation background in the Neutron Source experimental hall is within normal limits.
The neutron source, like in any other nuclear facility, is not designed to operate in combat.
It is noted that the continued bombing and shelling of the site could lead to severe radiation consequences with contamination of the surrounding areas.
Background:
- Since 24 February, the premises of the institute housing the Neutron Source has been constantly shelled and bombed by the Russian Federation.
- There may be new damage to the Neutron Source due to Russian shelling, which could affect the state of nuclear and radiation safety.
