Quote from Headquarters: "The Russian Federation must provide lists of the Ukrainian defenders who were held in the Olenivka PoW camp who were killed and wounded as a result of the terrorist attack in Olenivka."

Details: The headquarters noted that on 29 July, immediately after information appeared about the killing of Ukrainian defenders who were held in the Olenivka PoW camp, the coordination headquarters demanded that Russian representatives provide lists of all those killed and wounded as a result of the terrorist attack.

However, so far, the occupier's representatives have not responded to the appeal.

"The International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, which acted as guarantors of preserving the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war, should immediately initiate an international investigation of the crime and seek punishment for all those involved. We also emphasise the need to conduct an international inspection to check the detention conditions of Ukrainian prisoners of war," the statement reads.

At the same time, the coordination headquarters noted that, despite this "demonstratively brutal crime of the execution of Ukrainian defenders," they continue to work on the exchange and return of Ukrainian defenders home.

Previously: On 30 July, the Russian media published lists of the names of the wounded and those killed due to the terrorist actions in Olenivka.

However, the patronage service of Azov reported that it could not confirm or deny these reports, and Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament] Commissioner for Human Rights, said that Ukraine had not received the lists of prisoners of war who were killed in Olenivka.

Background:

  • On 29 July, Russian media reported on the shelling of a PoW camp in Olenivka, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners were held. Propagandists claimed that at least 53 people were killed. The Ukrainian General Staff denied the accusation by the Russian Federation that the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out the strike. According to the General Staff, the Russians were trying to cover up the torture and killing of prisoners.
  • The Intelligence Service believes that the killing of Ukrainian prisoners in Olenivka, Donetsk region, was organised by mercenaries from the "Wagner" Group [a Russian-aligned private military company - ed.] on the personal instructions of Yevgeny Prigozhin, without coordinating this with the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
  • The Security Service of Ukraine intercepted telephone conversations in which the invaders confirm that Russian troops were responsible for an explosion in a PoW camp in occupied Olenivka, which killed at least 53 Ukrainian prisoners.
  • Ukrainian defenders published a joint statement and demanded that the UN and the ICRC, which acted as guarantors of the life and health of Ukrainian soldiers, send their representatives to the PoW camp where the Russians are holding the defenders. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross have submitted a request and will try to get to the shelled PoW camp in Olenivka where Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed.
