Quote: "Regarding the fire on the territory of the Saky airfield near the town of Novofedorivka in Crimea, which has been temporarily occupied by Russia: the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has not been able to establish what caused the fire. However, it would like to reiterate the importance of safety rules and the fact that smoking is prohibited in unauthorised locations.

The terrorist state [Russia - ed.] might use the fire in the information war. It’s possible that the occupiers will ‘accidentally’ find some tell-tale ‘chevron’, a ‘business card’ or ‘DNA’ evidence [alleging Ukraine’s involvement in the attack - ed.]."

Details: The Ministry of Defence underscored the importance of remaining calm and trusting the information provided by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

  • On the afternoon of 9 August, explosions occurred at the military airbase in Novofedorivka, in the Saky district of Russian-occupied Crimea. The Ukrainian Chief Intelligence Directorate has refused to comment on the explosions.
  • The Russian Defence Ministry claims that no one fired at the Saky airfield in Crimea, but that, for some reason, there was a detonation of ammunition.
  • The Russian occupation regime in Crimea claims that one person has been killed and five people have been injured as a result of the explosions.
