On Wednesday, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia, said that Ukraine's ambitions to join NATO posed a threat to Russia's security.

European Pravda reported that this is how he commented on the published Ukrainian draft documents on security guarantees.

Peskov was quoted by Russian Kremlin-aligned information agency RIA Novosti as saying:

"No one is hiding that they mean this document in order for Ukraine to join NATO, that is, the goal of NATO membership remains. Therefore, the main threat to our country remains, and one of the reasons that made it necessary to carry out the special military operation remains, and becomes even more relevant."

The Office of the President of Ukraine presented recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine within the framework of the Kyiv Security Compact on 13 September.

The recommendations envisage that Ukraine will continue to aim for NATO membership.

Recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine do not include China's participation.
