Russian occupiers destroy bridge that bisects Bakhmut

OLHA KYRYLENKO – THURSDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2022, 22:02

Russian occupying forces destroyed the bridge over the Bakhmutovka River in the city of Bakhmut, in Donetsk Oblast around 11:00 on Thursday, 22 September. The river bisects the city of Bakhmut.

Details: Ukrainian forces suspect that the Russians launched a particularly powerful missile on the bridge. The photos indicate that the bridge was razed to the ground.

The part of Bakhmut situated on its eastern bank (sometimes referred to as Zabakhmutovka by local residents), where the Russian forces are advancing from, is now essentially cut off from the rest of the city.

Quote from Terekhov: "Firefighters or an ambulance are unlikely to get to the other side [of the Bakhmutovka River] now. The Russians are attempting to destroy the city and its infrastructure, to wreck its logistics. But the heroic defence of Bakhmut is still underway."

Previously: Russian forces have been actively advancing on Bakhmut since mid-July. The city frequently comes under Russian artillery fire.

On 3 August, Russian occupiers partially destroyed the building next to the bridge over the Bakhmutovka River where the office of the Vilne Radio, a Ukrainian radio station, was located.
