Details: According to the information of the source, in general, a few thousand people can be forcefully conscripted from Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Previously: Most civilised countries consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be territories of Georgia. Russia officially recognised their independence after the war with Georgia in 2008. Administrations of those republics are controlled by the Kremlin.

Background:

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the "partial" mobilisation in his address to Russians on the morning of 21 September.
  • Later, it was revealed that there was a hidden paragraph in the Decree on mobilisation; it allows the Ministry of Defence to call up more than a million people.
  • After the announcement of the mobilisation, protests took place in Russian cities. According to the law protection activists, the police detained thousands of protesters.
  • Mobilisation notices were handed over to participants of protests in Moscow and Voronezh.
