Liberated Azovstal commanders are undergoing medical examination in Turkey

The liberated commanders from the Azovstal plant, who are in Turkey right now, are undergoing medical examinations and will be able to see their loved ones soon.

Details: Yermak reported that on 25 September he talked to the Ukrainian commanders released from Russian captivity.  

"They are all in a good mood and undergoing medical examinations. Their condition is being thoroughly evaluated. An in-depth examination based on their test results is being carried out by a general practitioner and a surgeon", he stated.

Yermak also added that the liberated commanders will meet with their families soon.

He reported that Rustem Umerov, the Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, arrived in Turkey on an order of the President to assess the living conditions of the liberated commanders. He confirmed that "the guys are living in comfortable conditions".

Background: 

  • On 21 September 215 Ukrainian soldiers were released from Russian captivity within the framework of a prisoner of war exchange.
  • Among the liberated PoWs there are also border guards, policemen, marines, members of the National Guard of Ukraine, members of Ukraine’s Territorial Defence Forces, customs officials, and civilians. In particular, Denys "Redis" Prokopenko. Serhi "Volyna" Volynskyi , Sviatoslav Palamar, Denys Shlega, Oleh Khomenko, commanders from the Azovstal plant, were liberated, as well as Mykola "Frost" Kushch and Kostiantyn Nikitenko, soldiers from the Azov Special Operations Forces, whom the occupiers were planning to execute.
  • The five commanders of the Azov Special Operations Forces are in Turkey under the personal protection and security guarantees of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey.
  • Viktor Medvedchuk [Ukrainian businessman and pro-Russian politician to whose daughter Putin is godfather - ed.] and 55 Russian occupiers returned to Russia as a result of the exchange.
