On 29 September, the police of the Republic of Tuva (Russia) detained nearly 20 women within just five minutes, as they participated in a protest rally against "partial mobilisation".

Details: An all-women rally was held in Kyzyl, the capital of Tuva, in the Arata square; the participants chanted such slogans as "No to genocide!" and "No to mobilisation!". The protest was interrupted by the police five minutes after it began. In total, 20 women were detained. The local media report that the participants are being fingerprinted, and their personal information is being recorded.

Quote: "In the video, which Siberia.Realii managed to retrieve, three policemen are taking a woman away from the square by force, even though she was ready to leave willingly. A mother with a child in a stroller was detained as well; they were taken to the police station".

Background:

  • On 21 September in the morning, in an address to fellow Russians, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, announced "partial" mobilisation. Later, it was revealed that there is a secret clause in the order about mobilisation, which allowed the Ministry of Defence to draft over a million people, mostly from villages.
  • On 24 September, protests against the war in Ukraine and forced mobilisation of Russians were held in a number of Russian cities. Hundreds of people were detained.
