Ukrainians are advised not to return to liberated Kherson region for now
Ukrainians are being advised to wait before going back to the liberated Kherson Oblast because Russians are launching attacks on this territory and local power facilities.
Source: Natalia Humeniuk, press secretary of the Operational Command Pivden (South), in the national joint 24/7 newscast
Quote: "The settlements in the Beryslav district which have been liberated from the enemy are now under constant attack, and the situation there is worsening. Infrastructure and communications are being damaged.
We do not recommend going back there. Winter is coming and it is likely that it will be impossible to repair communications and provide services to the population."
Details: Humeniuk explained that Russians are launching attacks on the liberated territory out of despair.
They are also launching attacks on the Nikopol district, which is located right opposite the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Background:
- Since the end of October, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced, the Russian invaders moved their occupation administration from Kherson to the left bank of the Dnipro River in the oblast, and also resorted to deporting local residents.
- On 9 November, Sergey Surovikin, the commander of the Russian occupying forces in Ukraine, announced the transfer of Russian troops from the city of Kherson to the left bank of the Dnipro River; however, the Ukrainian authorities were sure that a significant number of Russian troops remained in Kherson, and that there were no signs that Russia would retreat without a fight.
- On 10 November, there were reports that Russian occupation forces mined anything they could while retreating from Kherson; they also blew up critical infrastructure facilities, including boiler rooms, communication towers and the Antonivka Road Bridge.
