Quote: "Today is a historic day - we are retaking the southern part of our country. As of now, our defenders are approaching the city [Kherson - ed.]. There is not much time left to wait, we are going in. But special units are already in the city.

The people of Kherson have been waiting, and they never gave up on Ukraine. Hope in Ukraine is always justified - Ukraine always takes back what is hers."

Details: The President added that despite all the occupiers’ threats, repressions and abuse, Kherson residents had kept Ukrainian flags and kept their faith in Ukraine. And even though the city has not yet been completely cleared of the invaders’ presence, the people of Kherson themselves are already removing Russian symbols and every trace of the occupiers from their streets and buildings.

"The situation was the same in all the other cities that have been liberated by our defenders. It will be the same in the cities that are still waiting for our return," the president emphasised.

Previously: On the evening of 11 November, the command of the Special Operations Forces posted a moving video from the city of Kherson showing hundreds of Ukrainians who had come to the city centre with Ukrainian flags.

Background:

On 9 November, Sergei Surovikin, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian occupying forces in Ukraine, announced that Russian troops were leaving the city of Kherson.

The President’s Office of Ukraine announced that Ukraine sees no signs of Russia retreating from Kherson without a fight.

On 11 November, Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported that Kherson was returning under Ukraine’s control and the Armed Forces of Ukraine were entering the city. The Russian occupiers’ retreat routes are under the fire control of the Ukrainian army.
