Polish media: Missile that killed 2 in Poland might be Russian-made Kh-101

Visual analysis of the fragments of the missile that landed in Poland on 15 November during Russia’s large-scale missile strike on Ukraine indicates that it could be a Kh-101 cruise missile.

Source: Polsat News journalist Mateusz Lachowski, referring to two military experts

Details: Lachowski said that one of his sources is a military expert from a third country and the second, an expert affiliated with the Ukrainian Defence Ministry. They have made their assessment based on the visual analysis of an image of the missile fragment found at the site of the strike; the image has been shared on social media.

The journalist added that Russia has used Kh-101 in numerous missile strikes on Ukraine, including the one on 15 November. He also noted that Russia might have targeted several facilities on the territory of Ukraine, some 15 kilometres away from the village of Przewodów in Poland, where the missile has landed.

"A Polish military expert group is currently working on the scene. No doubt, they will determine the type of missile and the country that launched it," Lachowski added.

Background: Russia launched a large-scale missile strike on Ukraine on the afternoon of 15 November. A Russian missile crossed into Poland, landing not far from the Polish-Ukrainian border and killing two people. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki has urgently convened a meeting of the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defence. Poland will boost the combat readiness of some units of its forces and consider the possibility of invoking Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

In an address on the night of 15–16 November, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw has not confirmed who launched the missile that landed on the Polish territory but has said that the missile was Russian-made. Poland has invited international experts to investigate the explosions on its territory.

The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed it had "nothing to do" with the missiles landing in Poland.

US President Joe Biden said that it was unlikely the missile that caused an explosion in Poland on Tuesday and killed two civilians was fired from within Russia.

Meanwhile, three anonymous US officials told Associated Press that preliminary assessments suggested the missile that landed in Poland on Tuesday, 15 November, killing two people, was fired by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian one.
