"It is enough in the current situation. We are planning a series of exercises with CSTO [on the Western borders – ed.] for the next year, and it can also be considered as a measure of strategic deterrence," he said.

For reference: The CSTO is a military and political international organisation, which includes Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

Background:

  • Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine believes that during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Belarus on 19 December, the leaders will talk about a broader involvement of the Armed Forces of Belarus in the war against Ukraine, in particular in ground warfare
  • Putin is going to visit Minsk with a broad governmental delegation on 19 December. It is planned to hold a meeting with all the ministers first, and then, a one-on-one meeting of Putin and Lukashenko will follow; then, a press conference will conclude the event.
