Russians reduce number of its soldiers in Belarus to 5,800

There are about 5,800 Russian soldiers in Belarus at the moment; a week earlier, it was approximately 11,000 military servicemen.

Quote from Skibitskyi: "Today, the number of ground forces in Belarus is about 5,800 soldiers. The 2nd mechanised division has relocated to Russia now and entered Ukraine as well. In Luhansk Oblast, to be precise. Now, units of the 6th division and units of territorial forces are going there [in Belarus – ed.]."

Details: The Defence Intelligence representative has said that this time, these soldiers are different from the ones that were there at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. There is no powerful aircraft component in Belarus at the moment, even though there are military exercises. Besides, they do not have powerful missiles or airborne assault troops as well.

Skibitskyi has reported that there is one division of the Iskander tactical missile system, S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems and three MiG-31 interceptor jets. 

Background: On 16 January, Serhii Deineko, Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, reported that the quantity of Russian troops in the territory of the Republic of Belarus was about 11,000 soldiers at that moment. He said that Ukraine had not detected any increase in the number of Russian soldiers in Belarus near the borders with Ukraine; there were no measures taken within the framework of announced joint military exercises as well.
