Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, must pass the laws necessary to start Ukraine’s negotiations on European Union membership. He urged people to put pressure on their representatives in the parliament to make sure those laws are passed.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "We presented our work on the Peace Formula, security guarantees for Ukraine until it joins NATO, and negotiations with the Alliance and the European Union to the hromadas. (A hromada is a local administrative unit often designating a city or town and its adjacent territories, or a group of villages – ed.) People need to understand the specifics of our foreign policy, and they can help with some of it.

In particular, [people can make sure] that Ukrainian MPs (members of the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada - ed.) have a tangible incentive to work on solutions Ukraine needs.

All the laws necessary to start negotiations with the European Union must be passed. If [an MP] is not ready to work constructively in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, they must understand it would produce negative repercussions for them in their hromadas. They will feel it for themselves: either they support Ukraine, or they will have a hard time in Ukraine."
