Details: During the NSDC meeting on 11 August, the Ukrainian president ordered the dismissal of all oblast chief military draft officers in Ukraine and stressed that the system should be run by people aware of what war is and why cynicism and bribery during the war are equivalent to high treason.

The president said the soldiers who have been through hostilities or who cannot fight on the battlefield due to injuries are eligible to serve in the military enlistment system.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi was tasked with implementing this decision. Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s Security Service will carry out an inspection before the appointment of new chief military enlistment officers.

Background:

  •  On 14 August, Zelenskyy said in his address that many problems arise from the poor quality of work of military medical commissions, so an appropriate decision will be made.
  • The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) initiated monitoring the lifestyles of 135 out of 1,795 chief military draft officers throughout Ukraine. Oleksandr Novikov, Head of the NACP, says the majority are honest.
  • Yevhen Borysov, former chief military enlistment officer in Odesa, was arrested with a bail of 150 million hryvnia [about US$4.6 million – ed.]. According to the NACP, Borysov illegally enriched himself by 188 million hryvnia [about US$5.09 million – ed.].
