Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation has detained the head of the Kyiv District Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support.

Details: The detainee was an accomplice of the chief of one of the administrative headquarters of the Ground Forces of Ukraine who was exposed on 3 August 2023 as a part of a large-scale corruption scheme for transporting conscription-aged Ukrainians abroad.

Following the scheme, the men were issued a fictitious documents package about being supposedly unfit for military service. The favour cost $10,000.

The State Bureau of Investigation employees recorded accomplices receiving money from several conscripts.

Detainees were notified of suspicion of illegal movement of persons across the state border of Ukraine.

The article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment.

In addition, one of the sources reported that the chief of one of the Ukrainian Ground Forces’ administration headquarters, who also serves as a head of one of the Kyiv City Military Administration’s departments, was placed in custody with the possibility bail of almost 2,000,000 hryvnias [about $55,000 – ed.].

A petition was submitted to choose a preventive measure for the head of the Kyiv District Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Other facts and persons possibly involved in the commission of criminal offences are being established.
