"I'm proud": Kadyrov posts video of his son assaulting alleged Quran-burner

Ramzan Kadyrov, leader of Chechnya, has posted a video of his son Adam, 15, beating up Mykyta Zhuravel, who had been placed in a pre-trial detention centre for burning a Quran in the Russian city of Volgograd. Kadyrov commented that he is proud of what his son did. Quote: "There is still debate on social media about whether Adam Kadyrov assaulted Mykyta Zhuravel, an accomplice of the Ukrainian special services who burned a Holy Quran. So did it happen or not?

He did beat him up, and he did the right thing. Moreover, I think anyone who encroaches upon any Holy Scripture, specifically someone who burns it conspicuously, thus insulting tens of millions of citizens of our great country, should be severely punished."

Details: Kadyrov added that "our country is raising [its citizens – ed.] with the ideals of tolerance and love for one another", and that people like Zhuravel "do not understand the language of persuasion, do not want to build up and develop the country.

Without exaggeration, yes, I am proud of what Adam did. He was always distinguished by his desire to grow up not among his peers but among adults, which helped him form mature ideals of honour, dignity and protection of his religion. I respect his choice," Kadyrov wrote.

• Mykyta Zhuravel, 19, a Ukrainian who was arrested for burning a Quran in the Russian city of Volgograd, says he was assaulted in a Grozny pre-trial detention centre by Adam Kadyrov, 15, son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. 
• Earlier, pro-government social media groups ChP/Vainakh and ChP/Grozny reported the incident involving Zhuravel. They posted identical content, citing information from the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service in Chechnya.
• Ramzan Kadyrov has repeatedly threatened reprisals against anyone involved in Quran-burning.
• A video of a Quran being burned in Volgograd emerged on social media on 19 May. Two days later, Russian security forces reported the detention of a suspect, local resident Mykyta Zhuravel, originally from Ukraine, who had moved to Volgograd from Russian-annexed Crimea and worked as a food deliveryman.
