Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council is preparing to consider the issue of threats to the security of society due to the spread of online casinos and the lack of control over this industry.

In his address, Zelenskyy also mentioned the author of the petition to restrict online casinos, which started the discussion, Junior Sergeant Pavlo Petrychenko of the 59th Separate Mechanised Brigade of Ukraine's Armed Forces, who was killed in action on 15 April (Ukraine’s army rank of Junior Sergeant is equivalent to that of Corporal in the US Army – ed.)

Previously: 

  • Reportedly, the petition to restrict the operation of online casinos thta appeared on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine received more than 26,000 votes out of the 25,000 required for consideration. 
  • On 29 March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the heads of the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Service for Special Communications, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the National Security and Defence Council to collect the data on online casinos and their impact on society. 
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the preparation of steps that will "add the necessary control" over online casinos.
