Details: As of 3 April, official Pentagon figures showed that 365 American service personnel have been wounded and 13 killed as a result of the military campaign against Iran.

The Army accounted for the largest number of wounded, with 247 personnel, followed by the Navy with 63. Nineteen Marines and 36 Air Force personnel have also been injured.

Background:

  • Seven US service personnel were killed in Iranian strikes on US facilities in the region in the first few days of the war. Six others died on board a lost refuelling aircraft in what was described as an accident.
  • Over the past 24 hours, it has been reported that Iran has shot down two American aircraft – an F-15 with two crew members on board and an A-10 Thunderbolt II with one pilot. The fate of one of the F-15 crew members remains unknown, but the others were rescued and are safe.
  • In the early days of the campaign, the US lost three F-15 aircraft to friendly fire from Kuwaiti air defence systems, but all the crew members survived.
