Iran shot down another United States military aircraft on 3 April – an A-10 Thunderbolt II. The pilot survived and is safe.

Details: An unnamed US official said that Iran shot down an American A-10 Thunderbolt II on Friday. The pilot managed to steer the aircraft out of Iranian territory before ejecting and was later successfully evacuated.

In Tehran, officials stated that the aircraft was downed by Iranian air defence forces in the area of the Strait of Hormuz and that it crashed into the Persian Gulf.
Background:
- Earlier, a US F-15 was shot down over Iranian territory – the first such loss during the campaign as a result of enemy fire. One crew member was rescued by US forces, while the fate of the other remains unknown.
- Iran is also searching for the second crew member and has offered a reward.
- On 3 April, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with new strikes on infrastructure, including bridges and power plants.
- According to sources, attempts by mediators to bring the United States and Iran closer to a ceasefire have reached a deadlock.
