Quote: "If Russia is ready to stop strikes on our energy infrastructure, we will be ready to respond in kind. This proposal has been conveyed to the Russian side through the Americans."
Details: Zelenskyy also thanked Ukraine's partners, who continue to pressure Russia in various ways – imposing sanctions, stopping tankers and restricting supplies of advanced equipment to Russia.
He stressed that all the oil revenues that Russia is currently earning will be spent on the war: "That is why every restriction on Russia's ability to export oil is the right step."
The president noted that Russia, as an oil-producing country, is seeking to increase its revenues because of the war in Iran, but Ukrainian drones and missiles are limiting its ability to do so.
Background:
- The Kremlin has said that although the trilateral negotiation process on resolving the war in Ukraine is currently on hold, Russia continues to exchange information with the US.
- On the night of 5-6 April, drones operated by Special Operations Centre Alpha (part of the Security Service of Ukraine), working together with the defence forces, struck the Sheskharis oil terminal at the port of Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai.
- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed during a meeting with Zelenskyy that Türkiye is willing to host the next round of talks on ending the Russo-Ukrainian war, and Zelenskyy supported the proposal.
