Explosions and a fire have been reported in Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan following a drone attack on the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery, located about 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border.

Local residents reported multiple strikes on social media.

Explosions were also reported in the Russian city of Gelendzhik in Krasnodar Krai, where a major fire broke out.

Background:

  • On 18 September 2025, long-range drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat petrochemical plant in Russia's Bashkortostan, covering a distance of 1,400 kilometres. Early information indicated that the drones had hit the ELOU-AVT-4 unit – the heart of the plant.
  • On 24 September 2025, drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine conducted another strike on the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat facility.
