Moldovan citizen injured in Russian attack on Kyiv Oblast

A Moldovan citizen was injured during a Russian combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv Oblast on the night of 4-5 August.

Details: The Moldovan citizen, Ivan, had arrived with his son at a logistics centre in the village of Chaiky, Kyiv Oblast, on the previous evening. They decided to spend the night in their lorry before loading cargo in the morning, but the Russian attack destroyed the vehicle along with their documents and belongings.

The man said they woke up at around half past midnight to a powerful explosion. "We quickly jumped out of the lorry. We didn't even have time to grab our clothes. We ran out just as we were," Ivan recalled.

He said the lorry was engulfed in flames almost immediately. Their documents, money and personal belongings remained inside.

After the explosion, Ivan and a serviceman helped pull a man out of another lorry after he became trapped inside the cab.

Ivan sustained burns to his hands and back. He received medical treatment at the scene but declined hospitalisation. The man said he will continue treatment after returning home.

Ivan regularly travels to Ukraine on business, approximately once every one to two weeks. He said this was the first time something like this had happened to him.

"We were simply unlucky. The good thing is that we survived. People helped us – they even brought us clothes. We ran out with nothing, not even our shoes," Ivan added.
