"Secretary Bessent had a productive meeting with the Russian finance minister… He conveyed to him that the war needs to end, and we want to see a peaceful outcome," the official said.

Reuters, with reference to informed sources, reported that Bessent warned Siluanov that no easing of economic pressure on Russia or agreements on other issues are possible while the war against Ukraine continues.

Russia's Finance Ministry stated that Scott Bessent and Anton Siluanov discussed "issues of Russian-American cooperation in the financial sphere" at the G20 summit, as well as "issues of cooperation within the G20 framework".

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil criticised the invitation of the Russian minister to the G20 ministerial meeting, calling it "a rather alarming" signal.
