Kyiv region: Borodianka being cleared of mines, 8 apartment buildings to be dismantled

Rescue workers and volunteers are clearing the city of Borodianka in the Kyiv region of mines and rubble. The remains of 8 high-rise apartment buildings will have to be dismantled.

According to Kuleba: "Borodianka is coming back to life. This life will never be the same as it was before. But we are doing everything in our power to make the village safe as soon as possible and to restore the services necessary for a comfortable life."

Details: Kuleba said that 8 of the city’s high-rise apartment buildings will have to be dismantled as they have been completely destroyed.

21 more apartment buildings are partly damaged.

Nearly 300 rescuers and volunteers are clearing away the rubble and helping to restore municipal services. Sappers are clearing the area of mines around the clock. On 12 April explosives technicians found and destroyed about 100 explosive devices.

Background:

  • After visiting it in the first days after its liberation from Russian occupation, Denys Monastyrskyi, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, said that Borodianka was one of the cities that have suffered the most destruction in the Kyiv region.
  • On 8 April the bodies of 26 civilians were found in the rubble of just 2 high-rise apartment buildings in Borodianka.
  • On 11 April Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Ingrida Šimonytė, Prime Minister of Lithuania, visited Borodianka to see the consequences of the Russian occupation.
