2 civilians killed in fires caused by Russian shelling of Kharkiv on 8 June

In the city of Kharkiv, large fires erupted in the Novobavarskyi neighbourhood of the city on the evening of 8 June as a result of Russian shelling. Two people were killed in the fire, four sustained injuries.

Details: As a result of a Russian shelling around 23:00 on 8 June, fires erupted in a cafe, a grocery store, and a school library in the Novobavarskyi neighbourhood of Kharkiv. The total area of the fire reached 500 square metres. A school was partly damaged.

Nine pieces of fire and rescue equipment and 50 rescuers were deployed to put the fire out.

All fires were extinguished by 03:10 on 9 June.

According to preliminary information, two people were killed and four others have sustained injuries. This information is being confirmed.

Over the course of 8 June, SES rescuers in Kharkiv Oblast attended 27 fires, including 16 caused by shelling.

Fires caused by Russian shelling occurred in the Novobavarskyi neighbourhood of Kharkiv (2), as well as in the Chuhuiv district (8), Izium district (2), Bohodukhiv district (2), and Kharkiv district (2) of Kharkiv Oblast.

Residential buildings, farming facilities, a workshop, a hayloft, warehouses, garages and cars, a cafe, a grocery store, a school library, and coniferous forests were damaged by these fires.
