Details: Mayor Orlov has not stated reasons for the incident, but has reported that "an event occurred on the premises of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. The number of ruscists [Russian soldiers -ed.] has been somewhat reduced following this event."

Quote: "Since there are many speculations surrounding this situation, we will operate only with the facts we know at the moment and wait for informational updates.

This is what we know for sure: in the afternoon, nine soldiers of the terrorist country were urgently transported to the town hospital with injuries of varying degrees of severity. Some [soldiers] are being treated on an outpatient basis, some are now hospitalised. One of them was brought in in serious condition and has been put in intensive care. Some [soldiers] have died, but we cannot name their exact number at the moment.

We will not speculate on what has caused the ‘thinning’ of the aggressors’ ranks at the facility which they allegedly ‘guard’. I think the concerned services will make a statement regarding the situation later."

More details: Orlov added that Russians troops "were so scared that they ran around the station in a panic, and held two shifts of operational personnel at the plant for a very long time instead of changing shifts as they were supposed to. All the people [ZNPP personnel -ed.] have now been released."

Background: Earlier it became known that the Russian Federation deployed multiple missile systems on the premises of Zaporizhzhia NPP and have used them to fire at the area around the city of Nikopol.

More Background:

  • On 4 March, Russian forces seized the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They now control the administrative buildings and the entry to the station.
  • In mid-March, The Russians detonated ammunition at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, near the destroyed training centre and power unit No.1.
  • Around 500 Russian military personnel remain at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, as well as a large amount of Russian military equipment and explosives. As a result, Ukraine cannot entirely fulfil the safety guarantees given to its own citizens and the world, although it still maintains control over the work of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
