Kryvyi Rih fights consequences of Russian missile strike on reservoir dam overnight, water level falls

OLENA ROSHCHINA – THURSDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER 2022, 08:31

Emergency services were at work overnight in the city of Kryvyi Rih to contain and eliminate the effects of the Russian missile strike on the Karachunivske Reservoir dam [on 14 September]. The dam had to be blown up in two areas, but the water level in the River Inhulets is now falling.

Quote from Reznichenko: "We spent the whole night fighting the consequences of last night’s missile strike, and [we] came under fire again. [Emergency service workers] removed the water that flooded the city’s hydrotechnical facilities after the missile strike on Kryvyi Rih.

New information indicates that the Russians used Kinzhal and Iskander missiles.

The water level in the River Inhulets rose by between one and two metres in some areas following the attack. As of now, we have been able to bring it down to 13 cm and it keeps falling. Rescue and emergency service workers are continuing to work at the scene."

Details: In turn, Vilkul reported that a significant number of tasks were carried out overnight, including "two detonations [of explosives] at the dam in the Chornohirka area [that were undertaken] to increase its carrying capacity and major engineering works."

Vilkul added that the work to eliminate the consequences of the accident is still underway, but water flow has reduced and the water level has begun to fall.

112 private houses and yards were flooded as a result of last night’s missile strike. Residents of Hdantsivka and Motronivka settlements were evacuated.

Vilkul said that another area struck by a Russian cruise missile has been found; this missile damaged the water mains.

Reznichenko reported that almost 5,000 people have no tap water in the Sofiivka hromada [an administrative unit designating a town, village or several villages and their adjacent territories - ed.]. Works are currently underway to restore water supply there.

Previously: Russian forces carried out a missile strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, damaging hydrotechnical facilities and leaving several neighbourhoods without water on the evening of 14 September.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and Oleksandr Vilkul both said that Russian missile attacks on the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast were an attempt to flood the city.

Zelenskyy said that Russian troops are "villains who, having fled the battlefield, are trying to do harm from afar" and that this is "another reason why Russia will lose".
