EUROPEAN PRAVDA – TUESDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2022, 23:20

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine stressed that if Russia uses the sham referendums in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine as pretext to annex those territories, it will foreclose all possibilities of negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "[The annexation of seized territories] is an attempt to steal the territory of another state. It is an attempt to erase the norms of international law. And it is a very cynical attempt to forcibly mobilise men in the occupied territories of Ukraine into the Russian army in order to send them to fight against their own homeland!"

Details: Zelenskyy said that the only way to stop Russia is its "complete isolation". Russia must be excluded from all international organisations (or its participation has to be suspended). In particular, it has to be stripped of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council with veto power; sanctions against Moscow have to be strengthened; and Ukraine has to be given all the financial and military aid that it needs. Ukraine also needs legally binding security guarantees [from its partners], according to Zelenskyy.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "I want everyone to understand this. Russia's recognition of these sham referendums as allegedly normal, the implementation of the so-called ‘Crimean scenario’, and another attempt to annex the territory of Ukraine will mean that there is nothing to talk about with this President of Russia. Annexation is the kind of move that pits him alone against the whole of humanity. Every country in the world must clearly communicate this [to Russia] right now."

Background: Russia held sham referendums on the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts of Ukraine on 23–27 September.

UK Intelligence reported that President Putin might use his address before both houses of the Russian parliament on Friday 30 September to formally announce the accession of the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
