Details: Peskov recently announced that Russia would consider strikes in the occupied Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts "an act of aggression against the Russian Federation."

At the same time, Peskov could not answer the question which borders of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts would be recognized; however, he said that the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts are those of 2014, and they "should be liberated."

"As for the territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, I need to get the specifics. We will clarify everything today," he said.

Background:

  • On 28 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine must reclaim all of its occupied territories, and only then will it be possible to talk about the end of the war.
  • Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, is convinced that at the moment there is no point either in negotiations or in a meeting between Zelenskyy and the leader of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
  • This was preceded by a successful counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kharkiv Oblast, as a result of which, almost the entire territory of Kharkiv Oblast was liberated from the Russian occupiers.
