Information about Russia's plan to attack Ukraine from north not verified – Defence Intelligence

Ukraine’s defence intelligence has said that Russian forces are not planning to mount a new offensive from the north.

Quote: "Information about the enemy’s alleged plans to deploy a joint Russian-Belarusian unit to attack Ukraine from the north at the end of November has been circulating in Ukraine’s information space. This information is kindled by anonymous ‘leaks’ about a large-scale missile and air attack, which is supposed to precede the [northern] offensive.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has reported that this information does not correspond to reality."

Details: The defence intelligence noted that the goal of this informational special operation is to instigate Ukraine to transfer a significant number of troops to the Belarusian border in order to weaken the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Ukraine’s east and south and, additionally, to convince Belarus that Ukraine is preparing to attack its territory, thereby provoking Belarus to join the war against Ukraine.

Oleksii Hromov, the deputy head of the Main Operative Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has earlier said that Russia is spreading information that it is preparing for a potential "escalation" on the border.

"The enemy is spreading information and preparing its troops for a so-called ‘escalation’ at the Russian-Ukrainian border on 23–28 November. It expects that ‘NATO and Ukraine will want to capture the borders of the peace-loving Belarus and Russia’," Hromov said during a press briefing on 24 November.
