Details: Budanov emphasised that "internal security is constantly working" in his department.

As he said, there were cases of "improper attitudes towards the protection of state secrets". But mostly it was "official carelessness", when someone sent information via a messaging service, and it became the property of the Russians who intercepted this signal. But, according to Budanov, this is a general problem for "all our authorities".

At the same time, he noted that the number of agents from the Main Intelligence Directorate inside Russia has increased since the beginning of the war.

According to Budanov, this is about people at "completely different levels". With the appearance of these agents, intelligence's access to information of various levels has increased, from socio-political to purely military issues.

Background:

  • In August, the Security Service of Ukraine gave notice of suspicion to a former deputy head of the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
  • The detainee was the deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine from 2008 to 2010. He then worked in various civil service posts within this institution and in a senior role at the State Space Agency of Ukraine.
