This is the beginning of cooperation on tanks and an important lifting of the taboo on the supply of such equipment.

Next, there will be an increase and acceleration of supply. We need hundreds of tanks and a stable supply of ammunition for them."

Details: Pavliuk has noted that such weapons are important for conducting a counteroffensive.

Background:

  • During the meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Ramstein format) on 20 January, 12 countries agreed to provide Ukraine with about 100 Leopard 2 tanks if the German government approves the re-export.
  • Germany initially refused to grant such approval and refrained from transferring their Leopards, but on 25 January, the country's government nevertheless decided to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Leopard 2 main battle tanks (MBT) and allowed partner countries to transfer tanks of this MBT model that are in service with their armies.
  • The Executive Office of US President Joe Biden will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a deal worth US$400 million.
